Buchan

A destination gallery where fluid architecture is grounded by an extensive natural stone landscape.

Overview

The Christchurch Art Gallery Te Puna o Waiwhetū is one of New Zealand's leading cultural institutions, designed by the Buchan Group to reflect the city's identity and its connection to the Avon River. Defined by its sweeping glass façade and fluid architectural form, the gallery houses a diverse collection of exhibition spaces, public amenities and cultural facilities. Extensive granite paving was specified throughout the interior and exterior spaces, creating a durable, warm-toned landscape that complements the building's contemporary architecture while supporting the high volume of visitors the gallery welcomes each year.
