Rural House

Christian Anderson

A contemporary interpretation of the rural colonial homestead, this residence in Hawke's Bay embraces its expansive views through a robust palette of natural materials.

Overview

Completed in 2015 by Christian Anderson, this rural Hawke's Bay residence embraces expansive views across a lush surrounding landscape. A contemporary interpretation of the rural colonial homestead, its architectural language is defined by a robust material palette that reinforces the enduring character of the traditional homestead. Heavy-gauge rough-sawn cedar lines both the exterior and interior, complemented by exposed timber rafters and beams, timber shingle roofing, and brushed Golden Sands Granite paving. Together, these materials establish a timeless architectural framework and develop a lasting sense of harmony between the home and the landscape beyond.
