Stone Used
Freyberg Square
Architect Name
A dynamic civic space where a vibrant stone palette brings lasting character to Auckland's public realm.
Overview
A popular and vibrant civic destination in the heart of Auckland, Freyberg Square was designed as a flexible public space for performances, markets and everyday city life. Designsource supplied a palette of four contrasting granites, specified in small-format modules to create a dynamic surface with subtle variation and visual rhythm. The interplay of colour brings energy and character to the square, while the inherent durability of natural stone provides a lasting foundation for one of the city's busiest public gathering spaces. Its north-facing steps and sheltered seating invite people to pause, connect and enjoy the space throughout the day.
