Avon River & Bridge of Remembrance | Christchurch

Boffa Miskell, LandLAB

A landmark of Christchurch's regeneration, the Avon River Precinct serves as an enduring public landscape that reconnects the city with its waterways.

Overview

A defining component of Christchurch's post-earthquake regeneration, the Avon River Precinct has transformed 2.9 kilometres of the city's waterfront into a vibrant public landscape that reconnects people with the river and surrounding urban environment. Over three years, Designsource partnered with Ōtākaro Limited to supply a comprehensive palette of natural basalt and granite throughout the precinct. From paving and bespoke street furniture to planters and public artworks, each element was selected for its durability, clean aesthetic and ability to withstand the demands of a high-use civic environment, creating a public realm designed to endure for generations.
